The Goa police apprehended notorious criminal Jenito Cardoso on Sunday, accused of orchestrating an attack on activist Rama Kankonkar last week. This information was confirmed by a senior police official.
Superintendent of Police (North) Rahul Gupta stated that during the interrogation of seven individuals arrested in connection with the attack on Kankonkar, Cardoso's name emerged. Kankonkar sustained serious injuries in the assault that occurred near Panaji in Caranzalem.
Gupta further noted that multiple cases have been registered against Cardoso, and initial investigations suggest that a longstanding feud may be behind the crime. Following the attack on Kankonkar, public outrage surged, prompting concerns from various social activists and leaders regarding the law and order situation in the state.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who returned to Goa on Sunday after campaigning in Bihar, assured reporters at Dabolim Airport that no guilty party would be spared. He emphasized, “All individuals involved in the attack will be apprehended.”
